For Parents: 3 telling signs that your child needs tuition

Is tuition really necessary? Here are some telling symptoms that indicate that your child might benefit from extra tutoring.

Your child is failing

This is the most obvious sign that something is not working. Is your child’s failing grade a result of a lack of motivation? Or perhaps poor studying methods? A wrong grasp of the material? Either way, something has to change – and for many, the best solution would be to engage an outside tutor. Public school educators can only provide your child with so much attention, but external tutors can help assess your child’s learning impediments and come up with the best methods to cater to their needs.

Your child is unorganised

Poor time management, an inability to organise content and a lack of prioritizations skills all chalk up to weak executive functioning. This is common among young students who are not equipped with the knowledge on how to properly prepare for assignments and tests. A tutor can help to inculcate these valuable skills to your child, which is often something school teachers do not have the bandwidth to tackle.

Your child hates school

Let’s be honest, school isn’t the most exciting thing. A child’s detachment from school can even be further exacerbated by poor performance and a lack of interest in subjects. However, the right tutor could reignite their spark by showing them a different side to a subject they are usually not excited about. It is also important to remind your child that they will need to master certain subjects in order to finish school, such as Math and Science, and will therefore have to find the motivation and confidence to study them.

A tutor has the unique gift to hone in on specific skills that can change the course of a child’s education. While not every child needs a tutor to succeed in school, some students might find that little extra push a game changer.
